## What you need to know

An empty event search does not prove that an offline client performed no action.

## Potentially affected

This applies to organization event logs on eligible Bitwarden plans. It does not establish a complete endpoint audit trail or guarantee that every offline or tampered-client action is represented.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends defining which event types an investigation requires before exporting logs.

## Article

An empty event search does not prove that an offline client performed no action.

## Source facts

Bitwarden organization event logs include timestamped activity and can be viewed or exported through documented web and API interfaces. The documentation distinguishes server events, which are saved immediately, from client events, which are normally transmitted periodically. A disconnected client cannot report events, and altered clients can suppress or modify reporting. Bitwarden explicitly cautions that these logs may not satisfy every forensic or auditing requirement. The event viewer also limits the date span displayed at one time even though the documented retention is longer.

## Applicability

This applies to organization event logs on eligible Bitwarden plans. It does not establish a complete endpoint audit trail or guarantee that every offline or tampered-client action is represented.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends defining which event types an investigation requires before exporting logs. Allow for normal client-reporting delay, and compare the requested time range with the viewer’s limits. Preserve relevant account, device, and application evidence through the appropriate process when a missing event matters. Document the distinction between “no matching record found” and “the action did not occur.” Review API export access and protected storage for event data, and correlate organization changes with independent identity or endpoint records where appropriate.

## Verification

With a test account and synthetic vault item, perform a documented client event and compare its appearance with a server-side change. Observe reporting timing without assuming a fixed maximum. Confirm the export covers the requested period and record any known disconnected-client interval as an evidence limitation.
