Approve the shared display’s audience before allowing its remote control to browse historical recordings.

## Potentially affected

Applies to Verkada Viewing Station configuration, including the VX52 workflow in the guide. This concerns the authority available at a shared physical display rather than a named browser user’s permissions.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends approving the display’s audience before enabling history playback.

## Article

Approve the shared display’s audience before allowing its remote control to browse historical recordings.

## Source facts

Verkada Viewing Stations are claimed and managed by Org Admins and display configured camera tiles. The Enable History Playback setting permits a person at the display to scrub earlier footage with the remote; disabling it limits that station to live footage. A separate Enable Cloud Streaming setting is required for remote cameras when local video is unavailable. The configuration also includes offline notifications and a Test Offline Mode function, allowing the station’s viewing behavior to be evaluated separately from ordinary Command browser access.

## Applicability

Applies to Verkada Viewing Station configuration, including the VX52 workflow in the guide. This concerns the authority available at a shared physical display rather than a named browser user’s permissions.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends approving the display’s audience before enabling history playback. Consider visitors, cleaners, and staff who can reach the screen or remote, and place sensitive cameras only on an appropriately controlled display. Decide whether remote camera viewing is needed and name recipients for station-offline alerts. Keep the layout and history setting in the station inventory. When copying another station’s configuration, reapprove the audience instead of assuming its location has identical privacy needs.

## Verification

At the actual display, verify whether the remote can enter history and whether each approved local and remote camera appears. Use the documented offline test during an agreed window and record which views remain available. Check that the designated alert recipient can recognize and respond to a station outage.
