## What you need to know

Choose the pass action according to device replacement, temporary suspension, staff reassignment, or console migration.

## Potentially affected

Applies to the Touch Pass lifecycle documented in UniFi Access, including supported wallet devices and consoles. This article does not assume that unbinding a phone revokes every credential the person holds.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends selecting the action according to the actual business event.

## Article

Choose the pass action according to device replacement, temporary suspension, staff reassignment, or console migration.

## Source facts

UniFi Touch Pass management distinguishes unbinding, suspension, and reassignment. Unbinding removes the pass from the current device but keeps it owned by the same user and associated iCloud or Google account. It does not return the pass to a pool for another user; the guide directs administrators to Technical Support for that transfer. Suspension temporarily disables door unlocking, while Resume reactivates the pass. Restoring passes onto another console removes them from the original console and requires reassignment.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends selecting the action according to the actual business event. Distinguish a replacement phone, temporary suspension, staff departure, and console replacement in the support procedure. Check other credentials separately when access must end. Keep the wallet-account ownership decision with the user and use the vendor-supported reassignment path instead of repeatedly unbinding the device. During console migration, coordinate pass restoration with user communication and a fallback entry method approved by the access owner.

## Verification

Use an approved test pass to confirm the old device no longer works after unbinding and that the same owner can activate the intended replacement. For a suspension test, verify denial and controlled resumption. Review the pass’s owner and console association after restoration without capturing wallet secrets or private account data.
