## Source facts

In its iOS retirement guidance, Microsoft treats contacts previously exported by Outlook Mobile as personal data and states that Intune Retire does not remove them. After reinstalling Outlook Mobile, users might need its Delete All Saved Contacts option before exporting again to avoid duplicates. ## Applicability

Use this check for an iOS retirement or re-enrollment involving Outlook Mobile contact export. Establish whether export was used before describing what the retirement action will remove.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends adding contact export to the retirement handoff. Explain the documented persistence to the device owner and distinguish the organizational action from any user-approved cleanup of saved contacts. For a returning user, review existing contacts before enabling another export. Have the support owner provide an app-specific procedure that preserves unrelated personal contacts and follows the organization’s data-handling requirements.

## Verification

Use an approved test account and nonsensitive contacts to exercise export, retirement and reinstall. Compare the saved contacts before and after each stage and record any duplicates after re-export. Verify the cleanup procedure separately before offering it to users. Do not use a successful retirement status alone as evidence that exported contact entries disappeared.
