## What you need to know

Include normal displays, operators, resolutions, and disk health in the recorder capacity acceptance workload.

## Potentially affected

Applies to Protect’s current recommended capacity guidance and supported console models. The table is a planning reference; this article does not assign an unsupported universal stream or viewer limit.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends documenting the complete viewing workload when reviewing recorder capacity.

## Article

Include normal displays, operators, resolutions, and disk health in the recorder capacity acceptance workload.

## Source facts

UniFi Protect reports recommended camera capacity rather than a hard camera-count limit. Its guide says active viewer volume, Viewports, and disk health can affect whether a console approaches or exceeds that capacity. Published model tables also distinguish camera resolutions and include deployment assumptions, such as dedicating a CloudKey to Protect and reduced UNVR-G2 capacity when its integrated Viewport is used. A count that fits one table column therefore does not independently establish acceptance of the installed viewing and recording workload.

## Applicability

Applies to Protect’s current recommended capacity guidance and supported console models. The table is a planning reference; this article does not assign an unsupported universal stream or viewer limit.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends documenting the complete viewing workload when reviewing recorder capacity. Include concurrent operators, display appliances, camera resolutions, other running applications, and storage health. Use the vendor calculator for the actual mix and agree on expected playback responsiveness and recording continuity. Investigate a capacity warning before adding more cameras, and keep a planned expansion path. Do not dismiss the warning solely because the application still allows another camera to be adopted.

## Verification

During an approved representative load period, check dashboard warnings, expected live views, historical playback, and continuous new recording across the camera set. Include the normal Viewports and operator sessions. Record the actual workload and results so a later display expansion triggers a fresh review rather than reusing an earlier camera-count acceptance.
