## What you need to know

The survey instructions exclude IP communication from the actual test; record the radio survey and PACS network checks separately.

## Potentially affected

ENGAGE Test Kit surveys performed under installation instructions 116097, revision 04/26-b.

## DSE recommendation

Define a separate acceptance check for the gateway-to-PACS network path rather than treating the survey result as end-to-end proof.

## Article

Bottom line: DSE recommends recording an ENGAGE Test Kit survey as a survey result, with a separate acceptance plan for the gateway-to-PACS network path. Keep the scope of the measurement attached to the result when handing work from the installer to the network and access-control teams.

## Source fact: IP mode is not the measured path

The [ENGAGE Test Kit Installation Instructions](https://commercial.schlage.com/content/dam/allegion-us-2/web-files/schlage/installation-documents/116097_Schlage_ENGAGE_Test_Kit_Comprehensive_Guide.pdf), document 116097 revision 04/26-b, select IP mode while commissioning the survey gateway. Page 2 explicitly states that IP communication is not used for the actual site survey.

Page 3 also warns that a survey takes longer when linked devices are absent. It instructs the operator to remove absent transponders from the linked list before running the survey. These details concern the documented survey setup and its interpretation, not acceptance of every production communication path.

## What the source does not establish

A survey result is not evidence that the PACS network path, credential processing or intended door action has been tested. The instructions also do not provide a universal placement guarantee for every building. Keep the test equipment, actual site conditions and the manufacturer’s applicable installation guidance within the acceptance scope.

## Applicability questions

- Which gateway and transponders belong to this survey, and which are actually present?

- Are the tested locations the locations proposed for installation?

- Which network and access-control components remain outside this test?

- Who owns the separate gateway-to-PACS communication check?

- What information must the next team receive before accepting the completed installation?

## DSE recommendation: define the handoff before surveying

The following steps are DSE recommendations based on the survey’s documented limits.

Create a site record identifying each intended opening, gateway position and test-device identity. Attach the instruction revision used. Describe the survey as one acceptance activity and list the additional network and access-control checks required by the project owner. Avoid an undifferentiated “system passed” entry.

Have the survey operator reconcile the linked-device list with the equipment actually in the test. Follow the applicable preparation instructions, and record any change to the test setup before repeating a measurement. Do not compare results from different positions or device sets without identifying that difference.

Assign the network and PACS checks to named owners. Ask them to define the intended connection, authorized configuration and observation that will demonstrate communication. Keep those checks distinct from the survey even if the same technician performs both. Resolve a failed network check through its own evidence rather than repeatedly changing a gateway location without a stated hypothesis.

## Verification and evidence

Retain the survey outcome alongside the tested opening, gateway position, transponder identity, linked-device list and test time. When a location changes, retain the earlier result and label the new observation so the installation decision can be reconstructed.

For the separately approved network acceptance, collect the relevant gateway and PACS observations and reconcile them with the same equipment identity. Then complete the agreed access workflow test with the opening’s owner. Document which stage passed, which failed and which remains untested.

The final record should let another reviewer distinguish a measurement of the surveyed arrangement from evidence of the installed service. Keep unresolved network or door-operation items open even when the survey portion has been accepted.
