## What you need to know

Make reception choose deliberately between ending independent door access and recording a visitor’s departure.

## Potentially affected

Applies to visitor-door management from Verkada Guest. Staff should distinguish whether the person remains on site from whether the credential should still open doors; no actual visitor status is assumed here.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends making the reception procedure offer two explicit outcomes: remove entry authority or close the visit.

## Article

Make reception choose deliberately between ending independent door access and recording a visitor’s departure.

## Source facts

Verkada Guest can revoke a visitor’s door access while leaving that visit signed in. The alternative Sign out action changes the visit status as well as ending access. The guide describes automatic access boundaries, including door/access schedules, maximum visit duration, event end, and the site’s automatic sign-out time. A keycard becomes available for another visitor after the documented sign-out or revocation conditions; one keycard can be active for only one visitor at a time.

## Applicability

Applies to visitor-door management from Verkada Guest. Staff should distinguish whether the person remains on site from whether the credential should still open doors; no actual visitor status is assumed here.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends making the reception procedure offer two explicit outcomes: remove entry authority or close the visit. If a visitor remains under escort but no longer needs independent access, select the outcome that reflects that situation instead of falsely recording departure. Recover physical cards according to site procedure and verify the current assignment before reuse. Document who requested a revocation and ensure reception and the host share the same understanding of the visitor’s status.

## Verification

With an approved test visit, revoke access and confirm the visit remains signed in while its credential no longer opens the test door. Then sign out and verify the expected status change and card availability. Reassign only a controlled test card and confirm it has a single active visitor owner.
