## What you need to know

Define the software roster around recorded arrivals and departures, then document its limits against physical presence.

## Potentially affected

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends reconciling the visitor roster definition before using it in an exercise.

## Source facts

Verkada Visit Access Types define allowed schedules, sites, doors, maximum duration, credentials, and roll-call inclusion. A visit’s start and end dates describe its temporary door-access period, while check-in and check-out describe when the person is considered on site for roll call. The guide says visitors become eligible for the associated active roll call at check-in and are removed at check-out. A visitor can have only one active visit, and visitors can be included in roll call without having door access.

## DSE recommendation

DSE recommends reconciling the visitor roster definition before using it in an exercise. Identify which visit types include roll call, which sites receive those visitors, and who records arrival and departure. Do not substitute an invitation’s validity window for a confirmed arrival. Include escorted visitors who do not need door credentials when designing the roster. Agree how reception will correct an incomplete check-in or checkout and communicate that correction to the exercise coordinator.

## Verification

Use controlled test visits representing not-yet-arrived, checked-in, and checked-out visitors, including one with no door access. Inspect the associated roll-call roster at each stage. Compare the software result with an observer’s record and document known omissions so a roster is not treated as proof that an unrecorded person is absent.
