DSE recommendation

DSE recommends reconciling licensing by camera channel, not merely by the number of boxes installed.

Source facts

Verkada Extended Cloud Backup requires three actions: claim the license, assign it to the intended cameras, and enable cloud backup. Purchasing or adding a license does not by itself activate uploading. The management page reports assigned retention and remaining packs. Multi-sensor models require a license allocation for each sensor to extend the entire device’s cloud coverage. Reallocating active packs changes retention prospectively; the documentation says it does not change retention for footage already backed up.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends reconciling licensing by camera channel, not merely by the number of boxes installed. Make the sales handoff list show required retention, sensor count, assigned packs, and backup activation as separate fields. Investigate unassigned packs and partially covered multi-sensor devices before accepting the installation. Obtain the footage owner’s approval before reallocating packs, and retain a dated allocation record so later investigators can interpret different retention periods correctly.

Verification

Compare the licensing page with the camera inventory and each camera’s backup settings. Select one recently uploaded interval per sensor on a multi-sensor unit and confirm playback. Keep evidence of the actual assignment and enablement rather than relying only on the purchase order or license-claim email.
