Use Hyper-V Manager from a separate management computer

Hyper-V Manager can be installed as management tools only, including on a computer that does not meet the hardware requirements to host Hyper-V. For a same-domain connection, the operator adds the remote host by its host name, NetBIOS name, or FQDN. The tool also provides a connection option that uses a different user identity. Applicability

Identify the management computer, target host, domain relationship, and intended administrative identity. Review the supported management-tool and host combination. Do not install a virtualization role on a workstation merely because it needs to administer another host.

DSE recommendation

Prepare a tools-only management endpoint where that fits the approved design. Use the intended host name and a narrowly assigned administrative identity, keeping credential entry in the normal protected sign-in flow. For an out-of-domain host, stop and review the separate documented authentication requirements instead of copying broad trust or credential-delegation settings into a same-domain deployment.

Verification

Confirm that Hyper-V Manager displays the intended remote host and its expected VM inventory. Check the account used for the connection and perform an approved read-only inspection. Repeat from a nonauthorized account as appropriate to validate denial, recording host access separately from any guest operating-system access.
