When Intune’s update-ring Uninstall request reaches Windows, removal starts without waiting for configured maintenance schedules. A required restart offers the user no postponement. The action also pauses updates of the same type; once the pause expires, a still-applicable removed update can be installed again. Feature-update removal remains subject to the configured uninstall window and does not work for an enablement-package upgrade. Microsoft Learn.

Applicability

Review this behavior before an authorized update rollback. Identify the update type, affected device population, recovery eligibility, and work that could be interrupted when devices receive the request.

DSE recommendation

Obtain a recovery window and user communication appropriate to immediate removal and restart. Do not rely on the ring’s ordinary installation schedule to contain the impact. Assign an owner to the accompanying pause and the decision about subsequent reinstallation.

Verification

Test the approved recovery path on an eligible representative device, confirming the actual removal, restart, and application result. Track devices that cannot uninstall separately from those awaiting the command. Before the pause ends, decide whether the originally affected update is now acceptable or another supported servicing plan is needed. Preserve the recovery evidence and unresolved exceptions.
