What you need to know

Approve the link’s functions and expiry together, then verify what its recipient can actually see.

Potentially affected

Applies to Verkada Command sharing links and embeds. This addresses the scope of access delegated by a link; it does not assert that a recipient’s separate downloaded copy can be recalled.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends selecting the smallest sharing option that satisfies the actual request.

Approve the link’s functions and expiry together, then verify what its recipient can actually see.

Source facts

Verkada live-sharing links can grant live video only or all video and features. The broader option includes historical footage, motion search, people and vehicle search, and camera statistics and settings. Archive links separately distinguish viewing from viewing and downloading. Links have configurable expiration, and administrators can edit or revoke them. The documentation warns that someone with the URL can pass access onward. Embedded live streams can be restricted to specified website domains.

Applicability

Applies to Verkada Command sharing links and embeds. This addresses the scope of access delegated by a link; it does not assert that a recipient’s separate downloaded copy can be recalled.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends selecting the smallest sharing option that satisfies the actual request. Record the recipient, purpose, camera or archive, allowed functions, expiration, and approving owner. Prefer a bounded clip over an entire live camera when an incident interval is all the recipient needs. Review existing links during case closure and when the recipient’s role changes. Treat copied URLs as sensitive access material and distribute them through an approved channel.

Verification

Preview the issued link in a separate authorized session and check both available functions and expiration. Verify that a live-only recipient cannot browse history through that link. Revoke a disposable test link and confirm it stops working; preserve only the verification result, not the reusable URL.
