Source facts

Intuit’s QuickBooks Desktop 2023 service discontinuation policy says QuickBooks Desktop 2023 software is discontinued after May 31, 2026, including Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, Enterprise Solutions 23.0 and the 2023 accountant editions. Users who did not upgrade lose live technical support and Intuit services such as Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments and online bank feeds, and discontinued versions do not receive critical security updates.

For payroll, the policy says QuickBooks Desktop 2023 no longer automatically calculates payroll taxes or provides payroll tax forms, Assisted Payroll subscriptions are deactivated and tax forms are no longer filed on the user’s behalf, and Basic or Enhanced Payroll paychecks may show inaccuracies. Credit card and check processing, eInvoice, online banking downloads and uploads, and emailing forms or reports from the software also stop.

Intuit says existing QuickBooks Desktop Plus and Desktop Enterprise subscribers receive version 2024 at no extra cost as part of their annual plan, and that discontinued versions may expose data and the product to security risks. It says it gives early notice of changes by email, inside QuickBooks or on the policy page.

Applicability

Use this for any business with QuickBooks Desktop 2023. Intuit discontinues older Desktop versions on its own schedule, so check the policy page each year for the next affected version.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends upgrading every QuickBooks Desktop 2023 install to a supported version, and treating any that remain as unpatched software holding financial data. Back up company files before upgrading, confirm payroll and bank feeds work afterward, and restrict any PC or server that must keep an old version for records to the staff who need it, without direct internet access.

Verification

Check the version on every workstation and server that opens company files, confirm payroll tax tables and bank feeds update after the upgrade, and record the next discontinuation date in the IT calendar.
