What you need to know

Check which settings, applications and recordings the documented reset path retains before approving recovery or reassignment.

Potentially affected

Hanwha cameras within the scope of the manufacturer's reset article; model-specific exceptions require confirmation.

DSE recommendation

Define the required treatment of configuration, Open Platform applications and MicroSD recordings separately before a reset.

Bottom line: DSE recommends defining what must be retained or removed before choosing a camera reset. Write separate requirements for network configuration, installed applications and recorded video; do not use a reset completion message as the acceptance record for all three.

Source fact: reset does not describe one retention outcome

In Hanwha’s reset article, the hardware-reset section states that recorded MicroSD information is retained while third-party applications in Open Platform are removed.

The article also describes an “Except network parameter & open platform” option for retaining IP information. It limits retention of Open Platform applications through that option to certain models. The documented distinction is therefore between specific reset choices and their stated effects, not a single outcome for every camera.

What the source does not establish

These instructions do not establish storage sanitization, removal of a cloud-account association or a complete response to suspected compromise. They also do not guarantee identical behavior across all Hanwha models. Use the exact model documentation and the separate recording-retention or incident process when those outcomes are required.

Applicability questions

  • Which camera model and firmware are being recovered or reassigned?
  • Is the purpose to repair configuration, recover administration, retain applications or remove data?
  • Must existing recordings be preserved for an investigation or retention requirement?
  • Which network settings and Open Platform applications are intended to survive?
  • Who can verify the resulting configuration and recording state after the selected procedure?

DSE recommendation: make retention decisions before recovery

The following steps are DSE recommendations based on the documented reset boundaries.

Create a before-and-after record with three rows: configuration, applications and recordings. For each row, state the required outcome, its owner and the evidence that will demonstrate completion. Resolve conflicts, such as a request to preserve footage while preparing equipment for another owner, before beginning the change.

Select the reset method only after confirming its applicability to the installed model. Record the exact option to be used and the manufacturer instructions governing it. Arrange the required administrative access and a recovery path for any network information that the plan expects to change. Keep credentials out of shared screenshots and tickets.

If the work involves an incident, ask the incident owner what evidence must be collected before any configuration change. If it involves retirement or reassignment, obtain a separate decision about recorded media and account relationships. Do not silently expand a configuration-repair request into permission to erase recordings or detach the device from another service.

Verification and evidence

Perform the selected procedure only within the approved scope. Then compare the observed network configuration, application inventory and recording availability with the three-row acceptance record. Document an unexpected result before attempting another reset method.

For a recording-preservation requirement, have the responsible operator check the intended material through the approved viewing workflow. For a removal requirement, use the separately approved media procedure and retain its own evidence. Avoid describing either outcome as proven solely because the camera can be reached again.

Retain the model, firmware, cited procedure, selected options, approved retention decisions and observed after-state. Keep the reset outcome separate from any later confirmation of cloud ownership or media handling.
