This is expected capacity management, not necessarily a software failure. Variable scene complexity, added cameras, changed frame rates, event volume, evidence locks, other files, or a storage fault can consume the reserve that made the original calculation work.

Add a warning margin long enough for investigation and capacity remediation. Trend used and free capacity, write rate, camera count, profile changes, recording gaps, storage health, and locked evidence so the cause can be distinguished.
Periodically retrieve clips at the oldest boundary, a midpoint, and a recent timestamp through the normal investigator account. If actual history is short, preserve active evidence, identify the constraint, and use approved changes to capacity, recording profile, or retention priority. Do not silently lower the requirement to match current storage.
Verification and evidence
Retain the approved retention matrix, configuration export, oldest-recording samples by camera, retrieved clips, capacity and bitrate trends, deletion or storage events, alert test, investigation tickets, and remediation approval. Repeat after adding devices or changing resolution, frame rate, compression, archive, or evidence-lock behavior.
