Executive summary

What you need to know

Check the door mode and required controller connection before replacing valid keypad credentials during troubleshooting.

Potentially affected

Applies to the TD63 and the door modes described in the second-generation intercom guide. A working IP connection or intercom call alone does not establish the required keypad-unlock wiring path.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends confirming the intended door mode and controller relationship during design review.

Source facts

Verkada’s second-generation intercom guide limits TD63 keypad unlocking to two door modes: a door directly connected to the intercom or a door paired to a Verkada controller. For the paired-controller mode, the intercom’s RS485 output must also be hardwired to that controller. The guide distinguishes where unlock settings are managed: directly connected and third-party-controller modes expose the intercom unlock menu, while a paired Verkada controller owns those settings. Keypad entry codes are submitted with the pound key.

Applicability

Applies to the TD63 and the door modes described in the second-generation intercom guide. A working IP connection or intercom call alone does not establish the required keypad-unlock wiring path.

DSE recommendation

DSE recommends confirming the intended door mode and controller relationship during design review. Have a qualified installer document the RS485 connection where the paired-controller workflow requires it, using the manufacturer’s wiring instructions. Give service staff a clear record of which device owns unlock configuration. If calls work but keypad entry does not, check that architecture before changing valid visitor codes or expanding access permissions. Coordinate any wiring work with the approved door-control maintenance process.

Verification

At the pilot entrance, inspect the configured door mode and documented controller connection, then test an authorized temporary code followed by the required submission key. Verify the intended door and event record. Include an invalid controlled code as a negative case and confirm ordinary approved entry still works after the change.
