Keep Defender for Identity sensor v2 scope to legacy controllers and non-DC identity roles

Sensor v2 supports domain controllers running Windows Server 2016 or earlier and AD FS, AD CS, or Microsoft Entra Connect servers that are not domain controllers. For domain controllers running Windows Server 2019 or later, Microsoft recommends sensor v3 instead of sensor v2.

Size Defender for Identity sensor v2 separately from sensor v3

The capacity planning tool was designed for the resource-intensive network processes of sensor v2.x. Microsoft says sensor v3.x does not require the sizing tool because it relies mainly on Windows events and event tracing and has lower resource requirements.
